A BILL to amend and reenact §29-21-3a of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to continuation of Public Defender Services.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That §29-21-3a of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended and reenacted to read as follows:
ARTICLE 21. PUBLIC DEFENDER SERVICES.
§29-21-3a. Continuation of Public Defender Services.
Pursuant to the provisions of article ten, chapter four of this code, Public Defender Services shall continue to exist until the first day of July, two thousand four eight, unless sooner terminated, continued or reestablished by act of the Legislature pursuant to the provisions of article ten, chapter four of this code.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to continue Public Defender Services until July 1, 2008, pursuant to the West Virginia Sunset Law. This bill is recommended by the Joint Committee on Government Operations.
